New look, who dis?

Back in November, I had this idea. I knew I wanted new head-shots, especially since I cut off my locs and became a mom since my last professional shoot. I also knew I wanted to upgrade and rebrand my site, so it only made sense to do a creative professional shoot.  My goal was simple, a few shots to showcase a few of my many facets. I’d use them for anything from bios to business cards to the cover or back insert of my first book. I wanted to capture my goofy, fun, sophisticated, mature, introspective, evolving nature, and “new look” including the baby fat that I have been ambivalent about working off.  So, I reached out to Joni Smith of Joni Smith Fotography. She’s a talented photographer currently in Spain. I had been admiring her photos for some time and wanted to work with her.

I took these photos on January 1st, the first day of the new year and new decade. As with everything I do, I gave careful consideration on when I’d “release” them to the public.  I knew I wasn’t going to put them out there at the start of the year because we were moving and I didn’t have time to update my website for the “unveiling.” I also told Joni to take her time with editing and figured I’d be in a mental and physical space to revisit things come Spring when I was also ready to do my thing and “live out loud on purpose!” as we like to say at the start of a new year or venture.

Well...I’m glad I listened to that Voice that said, hold off and focus on resting and settling because 2020 is showing up and showing out.  While I can’t compete with 2020’s current deluge of brow raising events, I also can’t sit on these any longer.  So, a huge thanks and special shout out to the wonderful Joni Smith of Joni Smith Fotography and the talented make up artist Rachel Davis of Rachel Davis Artistry for bringing these images to LIFE in time for me to bring my site back out of hibernation!
