Black History Month - MUA + WOC
Happy Black History Month!
Today's inaugural Black History post is brought to you by the letter "F" for fabulously fed up and fatigued by the foolishness.
The one and only Jackie Aina, aka Jackie O., a make up artist and YouTube beauty vlogger, created a thought provoking video titled, "I Don't See Color". In it, she demonstrates how this hackneyed phrase is both short sighted and damaging. If you don't see color, how do you see the traffic lights at the traffic stop, how do you know what color car/furniture/clothes you like, how can you tell between a blonde, red head or a brunette or eye color? What about a bouquet of flowers or the rainbow after the storm?
And while I've heard how and why people come to this conclusion, it's damaging to assume that being "color blind" is healthy. When you don't see color, you don't see me. When you don't see me, then you're more likely to ignore me or act like I and anyone else you "don't see" are invisible.
So without further ado, let's cue the theme music and check out the video.
"Jackie-Jackie, Jackie-Jackie, Jackie, Jackie...Jackie-Jackie, Jackie-Jackie, Jackie, Jackie..."
